Following an argument where her mother holds the car keys hostage, Haitian-American teen Nadege Douyon is forced to take public transit to music practice. She arrives late to rehearsal and her demanding mentor/ conductor bumps Nadege from her concert mistress seat to the back of the violin’s section. Unbeknownst to Nadege, her mother, in apology, has arrived to drive her home. When her mother comes looking for her inside the building, Nadege must decide where she fits in when her mother’s immigrant world and the American one that Nadege is striving for collide.
